untitled-1The Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM), the national body for marketing in Sri Lanka, has partnered with several provincial educational institutes in a bid to extend marketing education to all regions of the country.

A ceremony was held recently at the institute to celebrate the progress achieved by SLIM through this extended service in 2016, where the Sabaragamuwa Business School in Ratnapura was awarded for the highest number of enrolments for the Marketing in Sinhala (MIS) program, while the award for the highest Preliminary Certificate in Marketing (PCM) regional enrolment was won by ETS Training Centre, Kurunegala.

SLIM operates within an objective of decentralising marketing education by not limiting it to the commercial hub Colombo, and bringing down the language barriers, which are generally perceived to be an obstacle, especially in the higher education. The alliance with regional institutes was born through this viewpoint and the Institute commenced Courses in both Sinhala and the Tamil Medium by introducing MIS (Marketing in Sinhala) and MIT (Marketing in Tamil) thus ensuring wider reach for those who are interested in pursuing Marketing. At present these programs record a high number of enrolments, enough proof for the success of SLIM’s national goal.

These courses cover a range of modules including, the Impact of Marketing, Understanding the Market, Marketing Research Methodology, Marketing Promotional Methods and Customer Care Service. The courses are available at the following Institutes affiliated to SLIM: AIMS College of Business IT – Negombo, Chamber Business School – Anuradhapura, Chamber Academy – Galle, Chamber Academy – Gampaha, ETS – Kurunegala, GCBT City Campus – Badulla, IIS City Campus – Jaffna, Isoft Technologies – Batticaloa, Jayasekara Management Centre – Kegalle, Jayasekara Management Centre – Colombo and Sabaragamuwa Business School – Ratnapura.

Those interested can obtain more details by directly contacting the above institutes or by contacting the SLIM Head Office at Ananda Rajakaruna Mawatha, Colombo 10 on 0112 675000. Information is also available with the Assistant Manager – Regional Business Development contactable on 0703 669 339. “Qualitative Marketing Studies should not be limited to the Western Province. SLIM has pioneered the widespread reach across the island. We invite all interested to join us in this progressive venture and serve a great need of the moment,” noted SLIM President Upul Adhikari.

SLIM Executive Committee Member Leonard Jayasinghe also stated that addressing the tertiary education needs of students all over the island is an integral part of broader vision in expanding the reach of SLIM education. “To this end, we have established accredited study centres island wide, which strengthen SLIM programmes in semi urban and outstation areas.” Emphasising further, SLIM CEO Sanath Senanayake stated that conducting regional marketing programs in both the Sinhala and the Tamil medium is a great step towards developing the business and management arena in Sri Lanka, and not limiting it to the role of service provider.
