Joint operation centre to combat drug trade: Rathnayaka

The Government has commenced a program to confiscate the properties of the five drug dealers arrested during the last two years, confirmed Minister of Law and Order and Southern Development Sagala Rathnayaka yesterday in Parliament.bup_dftdft-2-sa

According to Minister Rathnayaka, the investigations have revealed that the properties of these five drug dealers – Gampola Vidanage Samantha Kumara alias Wele Suda, Mohamad Mohomad Sidik, Thajubdeen Mohamad Sabruk, Sarukkali Kankannamge Estin and Dewayalage Thilan Chamara were earned through illegal activities including directly through the drug trade.

“Steps are being taken to establish a joint operation centre to conduct raids and action to prevent drug trafficking. The Police, Sri Lanka Customs, Ports Authority, Excise Department, Army and Coast Guard are some of the State entities actively engaged in this centre,” said Minister Rathnayaka. (AH)
