Tea price records tumble for a fourth straight week

Following up on last week’s record breaking performance in the Low Grown category teas sold under the New Vithanakande Mark improved their own record for FGS grade at Rs. 620 per kg this week. New Vithanakande is owned and managed by N.B.H. Pilapitiya.

An invoice of Ranwin BM equalled the all-time record price of Rs. 590 per kg. Ranwin is a selling mark of Hiddellana Tea Factory and is owned by Lalith Liyanage. This invoice was purchased by Sunshine Teas Ltd.

Amongst the higher elevations an invoice of Inverness OP achieved a record price of Rs. 780 per kg. Teas were purchased by Mounta Products Ltd. Inverness is a selling mark of Nuwara Eliya Estate, a part of Kelani Valley Plantations PLC. 

Also at this week’s auction Bearwell Estate, Talawakelle achieved a record price of Rs. 670 for Dust grade. Bearwell Estate is known for its consistent high quality Dimbulla Ceylon Teas. It is part of Talawakelle Plantations PLC, a subsidiary of the Hayleys Group of Companies. Teas were bought by D.S.S. Teas Ltd.
