Serendib Flour Mills recently came forward to support another well-intentioned cause by donating a 29 seater bus to The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana.

Identifying and addressing the needs of The School for the Deaf has been a long standing CSR initiative of Serendib Flour Mills. They have been working closely with the students of the school by providing them with flour and baking lessons equipping them with necessary skill based education. Serendib Flour Mills is one of the foremost flour mills in Sri Lanka with an ultra-modern facility based at the Colombo Port.

In the past, the school faced various difficulties supplementing the student’s transportation requirements as they required frequent travel outside the school for various extra-curricular activities. Serendib Flour Mills stepped in once they identified this need and donated a bus to the school thus giving children access to transport enabling participation in sports events, and other extra-curricular activities.

Serendib Flour Mills CEO Kevin O’leary stated: “We are indeed proud to have been able to make a difference and bring a smile to the children of this school. Sri Lanka has a long way to go in terms of creating equal opportunities for the differently abled. And we at Serendib Flour Mills hope to continuously support these children and assist them in their path to successful integration with society.”

The School of the Deaf Principal Samanthika Jayasuriya stated: “We are truly grateful for the support Serendib Flour Mills have provided us with throughout the year. This bus is a most welcome donation and would definitely help the children travel to competitions easily and trips and exhibitions are also on the agenda. This indeed would assist them in experiencing the world better.”
