Sri Lanka woos Iranian tourists

A tourism promotion program was organised by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Tehran on 9 October 2016 with a view to further promoting tourism between Sri Lanka and Iran.

The program which was held at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Tehran was attended by a group of leading tour/travel operators in Tehran and some officials of the Government of Iran.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Iran Y.K.A. Rohanajith emphasised the need to further promote tourism between Sri Lanka and Iran. Referring to the First Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Ministerial Meeting on Tourism (Tabriz, Iran, 29-30 August 2016), the Ambassador said that under the framework of ACD as well Sri Lanka and Iran would take further initiatives to promote tourism which contributes significantly towards creating employment opportunities, alleviating poverty, promoting cultural understanding and achieving socio-economic development.

During the program, the tour/travel operators, officials of the Government of Iran and officials of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Tehran discussed in detail matters relating to further promotion of tourism between Sri Lanka and Iran. 

A presentation on tourism in Sri Lanka was made by the officials of the Embassy and two documentaries on Sri Lanka were shown during the program.
