TMC Negombo Club had their fifth public event for the year with an evening presentation on a very pertinent subject relevant to the recent industrial issues widely publicised and made some jitters in the political arena a few months ago.

‘Safe and Healthy work culture’ is something though much talked about but least practiced activity in the industry which covers all areas in our work life no matter whether we work in an office, factory, hospital, shop or a hotel. It was an in depth presentation of about one and a half hours delivered by Gamini Rajapaksa with many practical examples as well as some technical aspects.

He explained about the basics of industrial health and safety, risks identification, different perceptions of safe work practices, misconceptions in health and safety, required behavioural changes and finally how it serves the bottom line.

Rajapaksa is a well experienced engineer by profession and processes with wide experience in the field of design and manufacturing electrical panels and switch gear. He is also a professional manager in Risk Management, Health and Safety with more than 10 years of experience in manufacturing. Further he is a certified lead auditor for OSHAS 18000 Health and Safety standard.

There were more than 40 Health and Safety Managers, Quality Assurance professionals, Safety Advisers and Hazard Analysts who participated, mainly from the manufacturing environment and hotel industry. TMC Negombo Chairman Dhammika Fernando delivering the welcome address said that the event was the fifth of its kind hosted by TMC Negombo during his tenure and thanked the event Co-Chairmen Freddy Daniels and Nalin Basnayake for their efforts and did not forget to mention the support of their partner hotel Camelot Beach Hotel Negombo. It was concluded with a sumptuous buffet dinner.
