New generation of hoteliers graduate from IHS

The International Hotel School of Mount Lavinia Hotel (IHS), held their graduation ceremony recently, which coincided with the schools’ 25th anniversary.

The graduation ceremony was graced by ICBT CEO Dr. Mohan Pathirana. The other guests of honour were Mount Lavinia Hotel Group General Manager Bazeer Cassim, Mount Lavinia Hotel Resident Manager Harinda Weerasinghe and Mount Lavinia Hotel Director of Culinary Affairs Dr. Chef Publis Silva.

61 students received their certificates of completion including the following special awards:

International Cookery – Koshala Nipun

Pastry and Bakery – Nadeeka Fernando

Foundation Level – Tharushi Delpachitra

Food and Beverage Operations – Viraj Holdenbottle

Kitchen Operations – Dhanushka Jayasundara

Accommodation Operations – Dhanushka Jayasundara

Management Operations – A.C.B. Akeeb

Viraj Holdenbottle received the award for The Most Outstanding Student.

The Board of Prefects consisting of 10 students were also appointed with M.J.M. Muzni as the Head Prefect.

Initiated in 1991, The International Hotel School of Mount Lavinia Hotel provides a launching pad for those interested in taking up careers in the hospitality industry. It is the only hotel school which is affiliated to a functioning hotel, ensuring that the students receive hands-on practical training in a live hotel environment. As a result, the certificates issued from IHS are recognised the world over. The school has alumni of more than 1,000 currently working locally and internationally at managerial levels.
