Serendib Educational Foundation (SEF) incorporated under Parliament Act No. 54/2009 recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. The SEF provides financial support to talented students who have excelled in their secondary education and have the ability and skills to reach greater heights as they pursue higher studies.

As part of its 25th anniversary celebrations Serendib Educational Foundation organised a program with Microsoft Sri Lanka titled Minecraft Hour of Code. This interactive program enabled children from several schools in Colombo to learn the art of coding using latest coding tools from Microsoft.

Students explore a Minecraft world through code in this 90 minute session. Participants will use kid friendly programming to learn how creativity and problem solving come together to make something all your own. By attending this, students learn to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics.

The event held at Sri Lanka Tourist Board Auditorium was graced by Minister of National Integration Al Haj A.H.M. Fowzie State who handed over certificates to the participants.

Today the Serendib Educational Foundation is celebrating 25 years and is looking at how schools can use latest technology to enrich the child’s mindset, said a spokesperson from the Serendib Educational Foundation.

SEF is focused on offering monthly assistance to talented students, project based support to educational institutions and any other activity that facilitates education. He further added that SEF’s vision is to see that the future generation of scholars reach their highest potential in the acquisition of knowledge.

Furthermore another key objective of SEF is to develop individuals who have the ability to become established professionals who can serve the Sri Lankan community and be recognised internationally.

Since 1991 the Serendib Educational Foundation has offered over 2,700 scholarships to students throughout Sri Lanka. As SEF celebrates this significant milestone it aims to further contribute to provide an equal opportunity to underprivileged students.

With a view to broadening their activities further and to take education to the next level, they are talking to the community leaders today. These interactions, they believe will create synergies among like-minded individuals and organisations that will deliver greater benefits to the community and the society that we live in.
