The 56 graduates specialised in one of the following; Accounting and Finance, Marketing Management, Human Capital Management and Management Information Systems. The Faculty of Business at SLIIT values the significance of preparing graduates to understand and adapt to the changing demands of business trends both locally and globally.

Commenting on the Business program at SLIIT, Prof. Chandana Perera, Dean – Faculty of Business noted, “The unique feature in our business program is that, the modules which are industry focused and driven, are compulsory to all students, thereby preparing them for a career in the field of Business Management. For example, the course Professional Development requires students to study a specific industry, interview an industry expert and thereafter develop a comprehensive report.”

Elaborating further he said, “At SLIIT, we also foster a vibrant research culture. Therefore, it is obligatory for undergraduates to complete a Research Methodologies module and develop a comprehensive research project, in which groups of three to four students conduct an industry or concept based research and present findings through the Viva examination and a dissertation. Working in groups gives students the chance to practice skills such as communication, team work and leadership.”

This four year degree program, gives students the opportunity to either complete the degree in Sri Lanka or transfer to one of the world renowned SLIIT partner universities in Australia, Canada or UK.

“In order to strengthen SLIIT’s relationship with the industry, we have also formed a Faculty Industry Consultative Board. Some of our board members are; Dr. Kishu Gomes, Ariyaseela Wickramanayake, Dr. Rohan Fernando, W.K.H. Wegapitiya, Kulatunga Rajapaksa and Shiromal Cooray. We get advice from these industry leaders, when updating and reviewing our curriculum bi-annually,” commented SLIIT Head of Department of Business Management Kingsley Bernard.

Together with strong industry ties and foreign university partnerships, the SLIIT faculty of Business also employs well-qualified in-house academic staff with experience in the public and private sector. With its slogan, ‘In search of new frontiers in Business Management’, the Faculty of Business within SLIIT continues to rise up to the challenge of nurturing business leaders, who can make decisions and implement actions that are right for themselves, their organisations and for the wider community.

With continuous assessments, soft skill workshops, internships and career guidance, students are equipped with a degree which meets the requirements of both local and foreign business environments.

The faculty has also implemented a program to develop soft skills of school children by conducting workshops in schools. For information on the next intake contact: 0117544801 or [email protected].
