Sri Lanka to host 2012 Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship awards

The Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards ceremony will be held in Sri Lanka for the first time on 12 February 2012.

The Sri Lanka Malaysia Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce is organising this glitzy event which will see applicants from 14 countries in the Asia Pacific take the stage.

There are 14 ASEAN countries in this programme; Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan. China, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Brunei, Thailand, Vietnam, Macau, Cambodia and from South Asia India, a media release by NDB Bank the principal sponsor stated.

Sri Lanka has been invited to join from 2012.

Enterprise Asia a non government organisation for entrepreneurship based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is the owner and organiser of this award.  The awards on offer are Entrepreneur of the year, Woman entrepreneur of the year, Young entrepreneur of the year, Emerging entrepreneur of the year, Outstanding entrepreneurship award, most promising entrepreneurship award and life time achievement award, Country Director for Enterprise Asia said.

Speaking at a press conference to launch the event National Development Bank Chief Executive Officer Russel De Mel said he was pleased to be involved in this prestigious event which through its nature encourages entrepreneurs to strive towards innovation and excellence. “This is a passport to international markets and paves the way for a large number of international players to participate,” he said. We are promoting the made in Sri Lanka story, he added, in which every citizen has a role to portray at work.

Applications for the awards will be accepted from tomorrow and the closing day for applications is the first of November. There will be a foreign panel of eight judges from Enterprise Asia.                         (DG)
