Members for Committee on High Posts and Standing Committees appointed

Members of Parliament to serve in the Committee on High Posts and in the Standing Committees (Legislative) were appointed yesterday.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya making the announcement said, “the Select Committee has recommended members Minister of Tourism Development and Christian Religious Affairs John Amaratunga, Minister of Transport Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of City Planning and Water Supply Rauff Hakeem, Minister of University Education and Highways and the Leader of the House of Parliament Lakshman Kiriella, Minister of Justice and Minister of Buddhasasana Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, Minister of National Dialogue Mano Ganesan, Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Dinesh Gunawardena, Vijitha Herath, Bimal Rathnayake, Mavai Senathirajah, and Dharmalinga Sidhdhartha  to serve in the Committee on High Posts in par with the Standing Order 128 (B) and the motion passed on 8th October 2015.” 

The Committee on High Posts will be chaired by the Speaker.

The Committee on High Posts examines the suitability of persons who have been either appointed to any post or nominated to hold office in any post determined by the Cabinet of Ministers and to make recommendations in regard to such persons. At present, all secretaries to cabinet ministries, all persons proposed to be appointed as Heads of Sri Lanka Missions abroad, and Chairmen of Boards, Corporations and other State Institutions are examined by the Committee.

In par with Standing Order 103, Speaker Jayasuriya also announced appointing Deputy Speaker Thilanga Sumathpala , Deputy Chairman of Committees Selvam Adaikkalanathan, Minister of Petroleum Resources Development Chandima Weerakkody, Deputy Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ajith P. Perera, Vijitha Herath, J.M. Ananda Kumarasiri, M.A. Sumanthiran, Dr. Jayampathy Wickremarathne to Standing Committees (Legislative) which will also be chaired by the Speaker.
