When UNP MP Dr. Harsha de Silva recently met with former Royal College Debating Captain Laknath Gunathilaka, he had some simple and straight forward advice: “Make Truman your platform and leverage on all opportunities.”

It was a brief but a memorable moment for Laknath who plans to head to Truman State University in Missouri within the next few weeks to have met with the first Lankan alumnus of Truman State.

Laknath is transferring from the University of Kelaniya after completing a year and says he had to make this difficult decision as he felt he wasn’t getting anywhere, mainly as a result of the university being closed for extended periods of time.

This was when he sought the assistance of Priyanth Dissanayake (www.scholarshipsforusa.com), who got him many attractive offers complete with financial aid over the counter.

Laknath wasted no time in accepting Truman’s offer which came with a wonderful scholarship and the promise of generous credit transfers. Laknath plans on majoring in economics and would naturally be looking forward to sharpen his debating skills.

Commenting on the guidance received from Scholarships for USA, Laknath said: “They gave me confidence and walked me through a smooth passage, getting me multiple offers and leaving me to make the final choice. They are very professional and work to a tight plan.”

Harsha assured Laknath that it was a very smart move. He pointed out the very affordable cost, high quality education, safe and caring community and small rural town with its traditional Midwestern acceptance of internationals as benefits and urged Laknath to go right up to doctoral level. Here too he had a word for the Royalist who is a few years his junior: “Up the game constantly!”
