Ananda wins Outstanding Lecturer award in Aussie

Recently, Dr. DW Ananda Wickramasinghe was selected as one of top nominees of 2010 Lecturer of the Year Award, which places him among the top 10 lecturers at universities in Australia, an award based on all Australian universities.

Lecturer of the Year is an award designed to allow students and fellow staff members to recognise lecturers who have gone above and beyond in their efforts to better the lives of their students, and their campus communities. In 2009, the initiative attracted over 70,000 votes, and more than 4,000 university lecturers were nominated, making the 2010 award the most popular and a competitive one.



Dr. Ananda has maintained an excellent record in his teaching career so far which has won him the recognition of both the students and faculty of Queensland University. He has been honoured with Dean’s excellent teaching and learning award for outstanding contribution for learning and teaching of CQUniversity 2010. Further, he won the Faculty Award for excellent teaching and learning for outstanding contribution for learning and teaching of CQUniversity 2010.

His academic career has been equally impressive at school as well as at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. After gaining first place for his GCE (A/L) examination (Business Studies) in Sri Lanka in 1984 from the Ga/Gintota MV, Galle, he became a distinguished student at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJP) thereafter.

He was selected for the Business Administration Degree program at the university and topped the batch in the first year. After completing his Honors Degree with an HD, he served for about 15 years at the same university at various capacities in addition to occupying such high positions as the Chairperson of Strategic Planning Committee, and Chair of Development of External Program Centre.  He contributed to the business community of Sri Lanka as a Management and Strategic Planning Consultant and Trainer for public and private sector businesses. He was also one of three nominees for the Vice Chancellor position in 2006 of USJP nominated by the university Council.  Dr. Ananda obtained his Ph.D. in Strategic Management from the University of Queensland, one of the top 5 universities in Australia and top 30 universities in the world. Thereafter he worked for two years in the Institute of Technology, New Zealand in a permanent senior academic position.

He also gained a number of academic positions from Australian Universities such as Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University, Wollongong University Graduate School of Business, and CQ University. Presently, he is a permanent resident of New Zealand and Australia and is attached to the CQ University, Australia as a Senior Lecturer of Strategy.
