Pakistan court to probe “memogate”, adding pressure on govt

Reuters: Pakistan’s Supreme Court said on Friday it will investigate a scandal surrounding an unsigned memo seeking Washington’s help to rein in the powerful Pakistani military, a decision bound to heap pressure on the weak civilian government.

TCS pips Reliance to become India’s most valuable firm

Reuters: Top software exporter Tata Consultancy Services surpassed Reliance Industries on the last trading day of the year to become the country’s most-valuable firm, capping a gloomy year for shareholders of the energy major controlled by India’s richest man Mukesh Ambani.
Reliance, for long the darling of Indian investors, was briefly knocked off its four-year long perch as the country’s most-valuable company in August — first by state-run Coal India and then by Oil & Natural Gas Corp — before regaining it.

The much-hyped UN-sponsored global summit of some 194 nations in Durban, South Africa from the last week of November to the first week of December 2011 to come up with a consensual programme of action against the perceived threat of climate change ended up with ‘no action’ at all.

China’s factories falter, pro-growth policies eyed

Reuters: China’s factory activity shrank again December as demand at home and abroad slackened, a purchasing managers’ survey showed on Friday, reinforcing the case for pro-growth policies to underpin the world’s second-largest economy.
