ICANN calls for companies and organisations to prepare for introduction of new internet domains

Double digit growth for Asia Pacific server market in 3Q

The Asia Pacific server market continued its double digit growth in the third quarter of 2011, with year-on-year shipment growth of 23.9 per cent and revenue up 18.5 per cent compared to the same quarter last year, according to Gartner, Inc.

Samsung eyes 15 % rise in handset sales next yr

(Reuters): South Korea’s Samsung Electronics aims to raise its global handset sales by 15 percent next year by boosting its smartphone sales, putting it in a closer race with bigger rival Nokia, a local newspaper said on Tuesday.

New device to catalyse faster data processing

Washington: A new optical device, tiny enough to fit millions on a computer chip, could catalyse faster, more powerful information processing and supercomputers.
The “passive optical diode” is made from two tiny silicon rings measuring 10 microns across, or about a 10th the width of human hair.

LCD makers settle price-fixing case for $553 m

(Reuters): Samsung Electronics Co, Sharp Corp and five other makers of liquid crystal displays agreed to pay more than $553 million to settle consumer and state regulatory claims that they conspired to fix prices for LCD panels in televisions, notebook computers and monitors.

Google to debut new Android tablet to rival Apple iPad

London (ANI): Google Chairman Eric Schmidt has revealed that the company is planning to bring its flagship Android tablet to the market in the next six months to rival Apple’s iPad. “In the next six months we plan to market a tablet of the highest quality,” Schmidt told an Italian newspaper.

2012 will be the year of the Android tablet

At the end of 2011 the tablet market is overwhelmingly an iPad market. There are some Android tablets, but they’re mostly either highly customised like the Amazon Fire or Barnes and Noble Nook Color, or cheap pieces of garbage without even a capacitive display. The Samsung Galaxy Tab is one clear exception to the rule.
