Hatton National Bank (HNB) Deputy General Manager – Marketing & Retail Banking Chandula Abeywickrema was invited by International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) to present the partnership initiative support for greater financial inclusion among the migrant workers and their dependents in Sri Lanka at the Annual Meeting for Financing Facility for Remittances (FFR) held on 17 November 2011 at Rome.

Commercial Credit net profit grows tenfold in 1H

Catering to a more diversified market has enabled Commercial Credit to increase its net profit for the six months ended 31 September 2011 to Rs. 265.5 million.
This is an increase of 1,604% per cent over the corresponding period in the previous year.

Gap to triple China network in 2012

HONG KONG (Reuters): U.S. apparel brand Gap Inc said on Friday that it aims to triple its store network in China next year, one of the latest foreign brands to target the country’s consumer spending growth.
Redmond Yeung, president of China for Gap, which competes with Uniqlo parent Fast Retailing Co Ltd and Esprit Holdings Ltd in China, said the company aimed to operate 15 stores in the country by the end of the fiscal year to January, and to triple that number to 45 in fiscal 2012.

Tackling the global issue of bridging the digital divide, Eisenhower Fellow Brigitte Daniel was in Colombo for a couple of days as part of her tour of South East Asia, looking at various technology solutions and infrastructure models and different types of emerging technologies to address the digital divide issues in the United States.
