Linking of India-Lanka power grids planned

With the 30-year conflict and the state of emergency coming to an end in Sri Lanka, India and the island nation are contemplating an ambitious project to connect power grids of the two countries with undersea cables to allow bilateral trade in power.
Sri Lankan High Commissioner Prasad Kariyawasam told presspersons here on Saturday that a feasibility study decided it was “doable”.

Kelani Cables gets ISO 14001 Environment Management certificate

Kelani Cables Plc was awarded the ISO 14001 Environment Management certificate from the Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI) last week.
ISO 14001 was first published in 1996 and specifies the actual requirements for an environmental management. It applies to those environmental aspects which the organisation has control and over which it can be expected to have an influence.

Top principals from UK, Singapore and India were flown in to do the presentations which covered a wide spectrum. The first event was held on 19 August 2011 at Waters Edge, where 150 key customers were invited for the presentations.

Aug year on year inflation seen steady at 7.5%

Annual inflation is expected to have stabilized at 7.5 percent, unchanged from July, measured on a new index with a 2006/7 base year, according to a Reuters poll of 14 analysts, while 12-month moving average inflation is expected to have inched up to a record 7.2 percent under the new index, from last month’s 7.0 percent.

Elder Health Care to enter Lankan market via Ceylon and Foreign Trades

New Delhi :  Elder Health Care today said that it will enter the Sri Lankan market by next month with the launch of branded personal care products and is scouting for acquisitions in Europe as part of global expansion plans.
The Mumbai-based firm, which mainly sells in-licensed products, also plans to boost its own brands and will introduce about five to six products in the Indian market.
