Indian firm to set up $ 200 m medical hub in Maldives

Male: An Indian company will set up a US$ 200 million global knowledge and medical hub in Maldives, a country that receives a million tourists a year.
Coinciding with the two-day official visit of India’s External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna, the Indo-Maldives collaboration project to set up the hub, which would include a medical tourist resort pioneered by an Indian company, was announced Wednesday.

Malaria eradication enters final phase

An epidemic which decimated a large number, with as much as 40% of Sri Lankans falling victim to malaria at one time, malaria eradication has entered the final stages with the Anti Malaria Campaign and Sarvodaya, which has its roots in the Sooriya Mal campaign launched in 1960, taking leadership in its eradication.

Sri Lanka calls for linking of intra-SAARC value chains

Asian shares slip as US debt deadline looms

HONG KONG (AFP):Asian stocks fell Friday on growing concern that US lawmakers will not break a deadlock on a deal to avert a default by the world’s richest country.
Adding to downward pressure was news from Washington that a vote on a plan drawn up by Republican leaders had to be abandoned as they failed to convince the hardline members of their own party.
