HP to develop cloud products in China
(Reuters): Hewlett-Packard Co, the world’s No.1 PC maker, is investing heavily in China and plans to develop cloud-computing products here to sell globally, Chief Executive Leo Apotheker said.
This week, HP opened a cloud computing centre in the port city of Tianjin, announced a server computer networking and development centre in Beijing and said its Personal Systems Group will establish a China headquarters in Shanghai to develop hardware and Internet products.
New Oracle Exastack programme for ISV partners

The Oracle Exastack programme focuses on helping ISVs run their solutions on Oracle Exadata Database Machine and Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud – integrated systems in which the software and hardware are engineered to work together.

Hayleys HR Head presented Lifetime Gold Award for contribution to profession
Head of Group Human Resources of the Hayleys Group Sunil Dissanayake has been honoured with a Lifetime Gold award for his contribution to the Human Resources (HR) profession.

Japan funds Rs. 287m for HR development scholarships for public sector
The Government of Japan has agreed to provide a grant of Japanese Yen 208 million (approximately Rs. 287 million) for implementation of the second phase of the Human Resources Development Scholarship Programme. The objective of this programme is to support human resources development by providing opportunities for the Government officials to undergo Masters Degree Programmes at higher educational institutions in Japan. The programme will also assist to provide higher contribution from the public officers for the development of social and economic sectors of the country and to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
25 new properties inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, which now numbers 936
The World Heritage Committee has inscribed a total of 25 sites on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, including three natural properties, 21 cultural and one mixed site. Two properties were added to the World Heritage List in Danger and one was removed from that list.

The Sri Lankan Embassy and the International Club of Washington DC (ICDC) joined hands last week to launch the second annual ‘Signature Tour with the Ambassador’ over a colorful evening of Sri Lankan music, dancing and cuisine.
The dinner, hosted by Sri Lankan Ambassador Jaliya Wickramasuriya, was attended by more than 100 people, most of them members of ICDC, a leading social network based in the greater Washington region.

Japan makes visa easier for Chinese travellers
Japan has announced that it will shorten its group visa approval process for Chinese travellers, starting 1 July. This is part of an effort to boost tourism into the country after the 11 March earthquake and tsunami.
Together with this new development, Japan has also announced that Chinese tourists will be able to visit Okinawa on multiple-entry visas, effective 1 July.
Malaysia Airlines to join oneworld alliance
Malaysia Airlines is to join oneworld, adding one of aviation’s most frequent award winners to the world’s leading quality airline alliance.
Malaysia Airlines was unanimously elected an oneworld member designate by the Chief Executives of the alliance’s member airlines, at a meeting on the sidelines of IATA’s 2011 World Air Transport Summit recentl.
A formal alliance membership agreement will be completed soon.Malaysia Airlines is expected to start flying as part of oneworld late next year.
