Fifa scandal: Bin Hamman suspended
Fifa’s ethics committee cleared president Sepp Blatter of any wrongdoing as two of soccer’s most senior officials were suspended on Sunday in the worst corruption scandal to blight the sport’s governing body.
Qatari Mohamed bin Hammam, who hours earlier had ended his campaign to unseat Blatter, was temporarily suspended along with Jack Warner, president of the Concacaf region covering north and central America and the Caribbean.

SME-Toolkit Global Conference kicks off in SL
The SME-Toolkit Global Partner Conference jointly hosted by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Dialog Axiata kicked off yesterday under the theme of ‘small and medium sized enterprises in the 21st Century through mobile and social media.’ The conference which saw the presence of over 80 participants across the globe aims at coming up with products and solutions that will empower the Small and Medium sector enterprises of the community. SLBBC bids farewell to Netherlands Ambassador
The Sri Lanka-Benelux Business Council (SLBBC) organised a farewell luncheon for Leoni Cuelenaere, Ambassador for the Kingdom of Netherlands in Sri Lanka, on 26 May at the Colombo Club.
Cuelenaere will be completing her tenure of service at the end of May 2011. Sega Nagendra, President of the Sri Lanka-Benelux Business Council, addressing the gathering stated that since the day she assumed duties in August 2008 as the Ambassador for Netherlands, she had been a great supporter and a dear friend to the Sri Lanka-Benelux Business Council.

There is commotion inside the police station after policemen and policewomen realise that a bomb has been planted inside the premises by terrorists.

Etihad to introduce international chefs
Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, has introduced qualified international Chefs in its Diamond First class cabins, in a bid to transform inflight dining this year.

Flydubai launches 3 new flights to Ukraine
Dubai-based low cost airline Flydubai has opened three new routes to cities in Ukraine – Kiev, Kharkiv and Donetsk.
Flights will begin on 16 September from Kiev and Kharkiv, and on 17 September from Donetsk.
“Part of flydubai’s commitment is to open up routes that are underserved by direct air links to the UAE and that is one of the reasons we have chosen Ukraine and these three cities as our destinations,” said Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of Flydubai.
Korean Air celebrates delivery of its first A380
Korean Air has celebrated delivery of its first Airbus A380 at a special ceremony held in Toulouse, France.
Configured in a three class layout with just 407 seats, the lowest configuration of any A380 operator so far, Korean Air’s double-decker A380s feature 12 First Class Kosmo Suites and 301 Economy Class seats on the main deck and 94 fully lie-flat Prestige Sleeper seats in Prestige Class (business class) on the upper deck. The carrier is also the first to devote an entire deck of the giant aircraft to one class.
