RWC 2011 Official Match Ball launched

The Official Match Ball for Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand has been launched by Gilbert at a special event in Auckland on Thursday.
The Virtuo is the latest in a succession of balls to be engineered by Gilbert specifically for Rugby’s global showpiece Tournament and has been launched after rigorous testing, including an extensive Test match programme.

Govt. to hold Sri Lanka Expo in 2012 to boost exports

In a bid to boost exports the Government has decided to hold an international trade fair titled Sri Lanka Expo in 2012 in Colombo.
The Government’s decision was announced on Thursday night by Industry and Commerce Minister Rishad Bathiudeen at a ceremony to felicitate exporters who participated at the recently concluded Export Bazaar in Colombo.

World Challenge 2011 contest now on

Two Sri Lankans among the past six winners

World Challenge is a prestigious global competition organised by BBC, Newsweek and Shell. Inaugurated six years ago, it is held annually and the past winners were one each from Peru and Pakistan and two each from Sri Lanka and Philippines; the two from Sri Lanka are Thusitha Ranasinhghe of the paper making firm ‘Maximus’ that makes paper from banana bark and elephant dung in 2006, and Vidyajyothi Dr. Wijaya Godakumbura for his ‘Safe Bottle Lamp Project’ in 2009 aimed at preventing bottle lamp burns.

Attorney General lauds Sri Lankan IT laws

The fight against cybercrimes calls for concerted strategies, asserted Attorney General Mohan Pieris, President’s Counsel.
The Attorney General made this comment when delivering his keynote address as Chief Guest at the international workshop on ‘Cooperation against Cybercrime in South Asia,’ held in Colombo recently.

CAA awaiting AG’s advice on BOI clauses within flour companies’ agreements

UK, US welcome Expert Panel report on Sri Lanka

The United Kingdom, emulating the United States, has welcomed the report submitted to the United Nations Secretary-General by the Panel of Experts appointed by him to probe Sri Lanka’s accountability during the last stages of the armed conflict against Tamil Tiger terrorists.

Sri Lanka responsible for the safety of UN staff in the country – UN

New York: The United Nations Thursday reminded Sri Lanka that as a host country it has a responsibility to protect the UN staff and the assets in the country.
Responding to questions regarding the protests planned in Sri Lanka on 1 May against the Experts Panel report, Farhan Haq, the Deputy Spokesperson to the UN Secretary-General said the UN trusts the Sri Lankan government to assure the safety of the UN Staff.

Asia Stocks-Marginally higher at end of good month

BANGKOK,(Reuters) – Some Southeast Asian stock markets ended marginally higher in moderate volume on Friday, led by financials and big-caps, as a weakening U.S. dollar pushed investors towards regional assets.
