Sri Lanka vs. West Indies 1st ODI washed out
COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP)—The first one-day international between Sri Lanka and West Indies was abandoned because of rain at Sinhalese Sports Club on Monday.
West Indies captain Darren Sammy won the toss and elected to bat first and his team made 245-5 in 50 overs before rain started during the innings break. The steady rain eventually forced match officials to abandon the game.

Central Bank directs People’s Merchant Bank
People’s Merchant Bank (PMB) said yesterday that pursuant to instructions received by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) by letter dated 14 January 2011, the Board resolved at the Board Meeting held on 27 January 2011 not to proceed with the decision to take over the assets and liabilities of People’s Merchant Finance Co. Ltd (PMF), a 99.9% owned subsidiary of PMB.
