Commercial Bank’s ‘Sarasawiyata Nawa Saviyak,’ CSR programme recently presented 25 more scholarships to needy undergraduates continuing the Bank’s initiative to support the higher education of future generations of Sri Lankans.

HNB supports the flood victims in the East

The management and staff of Hatton National Bank contributed generously to provide relief items to those affected by floods. Two lorry load worth of dry rations, milk food, mineral water, mats, mosquito coils etc were donated amongst the affected families in the Eastern Province.

A chapter of GLF 2011

To go or not to go – for the Galle Literary festival (GLF) 2011, that is. Till late Thursday evening, we were still trying to decide…
The cause for our indecision – despite the attraction of the festival – was the fact that there was a catch to being let off from work and allowed to go all the way down there on a Friday – we had to return on the same day and file a copy. This copy, to be exact.

Inspired Winners at Continental Ladies Night

The 13th marked the premier Ladies Night of 2011 hosted by the Heist Bar, and as on previous occasions, it was a soirée filled with excitement. Ladies were invited to ‘dress to inspire’, and the outcome did not disappoint. 
 The event was quick paced, offering many memorable highlights. “Perhaps the most entertaining item of the night was the selection of Lady Continental –many smart, pretty and dramatic participants joined in the singing and dancing events enthusiastically. The winner of the night performed a modern dance act that won her the prize and the title” the Hotel revealed.

Asian stocks extend drop in broad based selling

(Reuters) – Asian stocks fell by half a percent on Friday, succumbing to a broad bout of profit-taking, as concern about rising inflation outweighed robust earnings.
The Nikkei average fell by nearly 1 percent, weighed down by financial stocks, as investors worried about higher borrowing costs after Standard & Poor’s cut Japan’s credit rating by a notch for the first time since 2002.
