European Parliament upholds Sri Lanka’s ‘right of reply’

The Subcommittee on Human Rights of the European Parliament has upheld the procedural anomaly raised by Sri Lanka’s  Ambassador to the EU, following the denial of Sri Lanka’s ‘right of reply’ at an exchange of views on the post conflict period in Sri Lanka, which was held at the European Parliament on 6 December 2010.

Woods loses another sponsorship deal

Procter & Gamble Co’s Gillette brand will not renew its endorsement contract with golfer Tiger Woods, which ends on 31 December.
The decision comes as the unit, which makes shaving gel, razors and other products, plans to phase out its Gillette Champions marketing programme in the first quarter of 2011, Gillette spokesman Michael Norton said.

Confucius, the sage, teacher and reformer of ancient China (a contemporary of Gautama the Buddha, the Enlightened one, of India’s Himalayan foothills and the Gangetic Plain), whose wisdom and virtue gave birth to the movement that has taken his name, died in the sixth century before Christ, but in his work he is living yet.

Poya is pious

Steps are not afoot to make the private sector work on Poya days, says the Employers Federation, keeping Sri Lanka’s record for having the most number of holidays in the world intact.
Employers Federation of Ceylon (EFC) Director General Ravi Peiris told Daily FT that the reports of the government having discussions to convert Poya days into working days for the private sector were unfounded.

My karate sensei who has been trained in the famous Shaolin Temple mentors us once a week and the theme last time was ‘Talent is not Enough’. The underlining ethos was that if one is brought up in a competitive sporting landscape, then when life throws that usual wicked blow, all that is required is to pick the pieces and start and go after the challenge once again with more passion and drive.

AirAsia Chief denies planning Virgin Atlantic bid

Reuters: The Chief Executive of Malaysia’s Airasia has denied considering a possible takeover bid for airline Virgin Atlantic, a Malaysian newspaper reported on Monday.
Tony Fernandes, responding to an unsourced Sunday Times report that he had renewed an interest in the UK airline, told the Star newspaper that no such discussions had taken place.

Bangladeshi Buddhist leader escapes attack

People flocked to Kataragama for the annual Kirivehera, Kataragama and Sella Kataragama religious ceremonies to obtain blessings last week. Buddhist devotees go to Kataragama once a year to receive blessings from the Kataragama God, Skanda.
